Big names in venture capital have gathered in southwest China's Chongqing municipality on how to build a "Science City". CGTN reporter Ma Ke has the story.

"The fourth pole of China's economic growth"-That's how the Chengdu-Chongqing economic circle is defined as. An ambitious goal that has received great support from global finance community.

ZHANG LI  Vice President, IDG China "We would like to focus on the next generation of information technology, and definitely for the investors, now they are looking for this hardcore technology like AI and intelligent manufacturing, medical and health-related issues. That is also one priority from Chongqing here."

The twin cities of Chongqing and Chengdu are geographically very close. They used to be competitors due to similarities in natural resources and development modes. Now, they have to join hands to earn a seat at the table with the other three economic zones.

XIONG  GANG Chairman, ASB Ventures China "We think talent will be the key to the twin cities' success. We're already seeing some of the country's smartest minds willing to live and work here. First, the west China science city will be a world-class research center for IT, High-tech, AI  industries. Plus, the living cost here is much lower than in coastal cities. So, we're confident."

Experts say compared to residents of the three other main economic zones, the twin cities' consumers form an under-explored domestic market.

PROF. PU  YONGJIAN Chongqing University "To fully develop the economic dynamic of this area, investment alone is not enough. The most healthy and long-lasting method is to stimulate consumption, also to let the  area be better connected with international markets close by, like southeast Asia and Central Asia."

The total contract value exceeded ten billion US dollars at Saturday's international venture conference. Ma Ke, CGTN, Chongqing.
